MEET THE BAND

Shiragirl Who is SHIRAGIRL? A punk rock princess armed with pink hair-dye, tutus and a microphone? That may be what you catch at first glance, however once you take a deeper look you’ll see the truth behind SHIRAGIRL: talent, a no fear attitude, and overconfident, shameless self-promotion.

SHIRAGIRL isn’t just a band—it’s a revolution. Staking a claim in the punk rock boys club, SHIRAGIRL have ambushed the scene and are carrying the femme flag with them.

SHIRAGIRL, punk-hop five-piece is the brainchild of front woman and Jersey girl SHIRA. Raine Palladino on drums and musical direction, Sammy D Evil on bass, and Foxy Roxy on guitar, complete the band- who are often joined on stage by guest DJ Mello D. This all-girl powerhouse has discovered the antidote for the glossed over, fabricated “music for the masses” epidemic that has been plaguing the music industry. SHIRAGIRL'S music channels influences by artists across the musical spectrum, from Sublime to Madonna to Bikini Kill. Hyperactive Music Mag instructively labeled their music “A vagina monologues for the tattooed, pierced and fierce.”

Brooklyn-based SHIRAGIRL recently spent time at Method Of Groove studios recording a new full length record, produced by Joey Z (Life of AgonY) due out by the end of 2008. Their new sound is more raw, more rock, and showcases a musically talented lineup. This summer SHIRAGIRL will return to Warped Tour with their new sound, and the EP Coming Soon- including 4 new tracks Anthem, Tantrum, Reklys and Days, off their forthcoming record "Scream Spit Sing."

SHIRAGIRL'S stage show—filled with sexy antics and forceful, aggressive lyrics—thrusts against their hook-drenched music and commands instant attention. You may go to the show to check out the band, but before you know it, you’ve got your fist in the air shouting “GO GO GO!” You are now part of the Shiragirl movement.

2004 Warped Tour LA marked the beginning of the revolution when SHIRAGIRL crashed the Vans Warped Tour a stunt never before accomplished. Parking their pink RV inside the venue gates caused chaotic crowds to instantly bombard their stage. Instead of getting kicked out, they were invited back the following year and created the first ever all-girl stage at Warped Tour. In the summer of 2005, the girls built the SHIRAGIRL Stage and used it to showcase over one hundred unsigned female-fronted bands from all over the US and Canada-including emerging stars Paramore- winning them the MTV Warpie Award for “most punk rock way to win a place in the in family.”

The SHIRAGIRL movement spreads further then just being Warped. Their friend and producer Tim Armstrong of Rancid/Transplants invited Shira on stage to perform with the Transplants. Shira has also shared the stage with punk rock heroes NOFX, Rancid and Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, performing special guest spots and musical collaborations.

A SHIRAGIRL does not need approval from anyone to voice her opinion, to dance on (or climb) YOUR stage, or to express herself in any way deemed necessary. SHIRAGIRL will not only demand your undivided attention, but will get it. SHIRAGIRL will NOT take “no” for an answer.

Roxane Pacifico is the quiet one, which makes her by far the wierdest. She was (unfortunately) born and raised in Staten Island, N.Y. and began playing guitar when she was 11. Many different bands including Choking Victim, Hole, and Metallica influence her. She crawled her way out of the pungent depths of the island and was found living in one of shiragirls’ guitar cabinets. Nobody knows too much about Roxy. She is kind of a mystery. She eats pizza daily and loves bowling and puzzles. Roxane is currently attending Hunter College for a degree in Sociology/Urban Affairs.

Sammy D.evil was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She started playing bass when she was 14 years old when her childhood friends started a band and needed a bassist. She is highly influenced by metal bands like Sepultura, Pantera and Slayer. Sammy is in love with tattoos and collects many of them all over her body. She went to film school for a few years and wishes she lived inside a horror movie with medieval zombie strippers dancing with possessed leprechaus drinking vomit martinis by pools of blood. She met Shiragirl playing Warped Tour 06 and they recruited her as their bassist in 2007.

Raine Palladino was born and raised in Westchester, NY. When she was 10 she started playing drums and got her first drum set for Christmas when she was 12. Raine believes she was a cat or some sort of feline in her past life. She would be pretty satisfied with a diet of bread and cheese, but certainly wouldn‘t turn down a salmon feast. She likes silver jewelery, and piercings. Raine has a Bachelors in psychology from Purchase College. Artists such as Cyndi Lauper and Madonna had a major impact on her. She joined shiragirl after their bands met playing Warped Tour in 2006.
